Germany's Education Minister Anette Schavan has been stripped of her Doctorate degree after a study was launched into allegations that part of her 1980 thesis in Philosophy was plagiarised. The choice was taken by a committee of academics at Dusseldorf's Heinrich Heine University.

Inside a similar case in 2011, former Defence Minister Karl-Theodor zu Guttenberg, resigned from his post after revealation he copied large parts of his doctoral thesis.

  1. This happened last month in Toronto. The chair of the board of education copied from various news articles and later apologised. Next, someone examined his doctorate and he had copied large segments of that too. It was impossible to do anything but resign because it was a hardly a one off as he had said in his apology. It is hardly a good role model for students.
